FRIENDLIES
posted by Statto on Sunday, 27 Apr, 2003

The weekend fixtures were all affected by the weather with the 1st XI friendly against Y.M.C.A. being the only game where any play was possible and even then it was shortened because of rain and eventually abandoned.

The 1st XI batted first after losing the toss and had scored 149-5 off 30.5 overs when the first downpour occured and an early tea was taken. Stiff was left stranded on 69 not out (his first fifty for the club) and Ian Nairn contributed a quick fire 29 with Tampa scoring a patient 20.

The Y.M.C.A. reply was steadily gaining momentum and they were 98-6 from 19.5 overs when the second downpour occured and it was decided to call it a day. Huddy bowled well to pick up 3-49 and Byo took 2-30.

The 2nd XI friendly against Frenchay and the Sunday XI fixture against Hinton Charterhouse were both cancelled without a ball being bowled.

FRIENDLY
posted by Statto on Sunday, 20 Apr, 2003

The 2003 season got underway today with a 66 run defeat at Congresbury in a match that saw a new club record match aggregate of 564 runs scored in the days play.

On a great batting track with a ridiculously short boundary on one side Congresbury batted first and scored a mammoth 315-6 in their allotted 40 overs. This was the third highest total scored against us in our 116 year history. The only bowlers to come out of the innings with any respectability were Jon Withers (3-34) and Huddy (0-20 off 6 overs).

A victory chasing such a huge total was never likely but Boardy played a thoughtful innings of 73 including two massive sixes to keep us in with a sniff. Useful contributions from Wobble (28), Huddy (26) and Buckers (26) kept the scoreboard ticking but the innings closed, still 67 runs short of the target, on 249-6.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
posted by Statto on Sunday, 13 Apr, 2003

A big thank you goes to the seven players and various partners who turned up today to get the ground ready for the forthcoming season. The ball stop netting was put up, the sight screen erected and the pavilion and scorebox were given a good spring clean.

Don't forget that there is still one net session left, on Tuesday, which will be your last chance to get into the groove before the season kicks off with an away fixture at Congresbury on Sunday.

GROUND WORK PARTY
posted by Statto on Wednesday, 9 Apr, 2003

There is a work party going out to the Bartons on Sunday 13 April which will be doing all of the important pre-season jobs such as assembling the sight screens, putting up the ball stop netting etc. They will be starting at approx 10.00am so if you can make it along to the ground to help out please do so.

WHAT A MARVELLOUS DELIVERY...
posted by Statto on Friday, 4 Apr, 2003

Congratulations go to Huddy and Claire who gave birth to a son today at 9.30am. It weighed in at 6 pounds 9 ounces and is named Ben Alex. Mother and baby are both doing fine. It's too early to tell for definite but we think he is a right hand bat and an off break bowler.

NET SESSIONS
posted by Statto on Tuesday, 1 Apr, 2003

The first net of the season was held tonight and was attended by 12 players. There are two more on Tuesday, 8 and 15 April at 7.30pm so please try and make it along to those if you can.
