The 1st XI were awarded a walkover tonight as our opponents, Hargreaves Lansdown, failed to turn up. It wasn't a completely wasted night however as we organised an impromptu double wicket competition between the six players there and the pairing of Smalls and Buckers came out victorious by a margin of 17 runs.
A video page has been added to the downloads section of the site where you can view video footage of recent indoor matches. The only match available at the moment is the one against Backwell Flax Bourton on 8 December but I am currently working on the footage of the latest match against Bohemians and it will be available in the next week or so.
Huddy won a competition on the Bristol City web site recently and his prize was a signed football which was presented to him during the half-time interval of the match against Stockport.
The 1st XI played Bohemians tonight and extended their lead at the top of the table with a comfortable five wicket victory. Bohemians batted first and scored a competitive 73 all out in their allotted 12 overs with Huddy (3-7) picking up another three wickets to take his tally for the season to 16. Pazza (1-20) and Wessy (1-24) also picked up wickets. We scored the 74 runs required for victory in the tenth over for the loss of just one wicket. Boardy top scored with 26 not out, Smalls contributed an important 20 not out and Wessy was the only man dismissed for 14.
We were involved in three matches today, with the 2nd XI playing two of them and the 1st XI playing the other. The 2nd's unfortunately lost both of their matches but the 1st's went back to the top of the table after winning their game. The 2nd's played Winterbourne first and were put into bat. Jon Withers was the only batsman to get into double figures with a score of 32 as we limped to a total of 52 all out in our 12 overs. Winterbourne knocked off the runs in the fifth over but not before Tippo (2-31) picked up a couple of wickets. The 1st's then played Old England and batted first. We scored a competitive 88 all out with Smalls and Huddy both scoring 18. Buckers also chipped in with a useful 11. Old England were restricted to 62-5 in their run chase as Huddy (3-16) destroyed the top order with a devastating opening spell. Byo (1-15) also picked up a wicket. The final match of the day saw the 2nd's play Old Down. We batted first again and scored a below par 67 all out with Witho again batting well to score 15. Old Down got the runs in the eleventh over for the loss of four wickets. Witho followed up his impressive batting display with a good bowling performance to record figures of 2-24 and Robbo (1-9) also picked up a wicket.
The 2nd XI played both Gloucestershire and Congresbury tonight and came away with one victory and one loss which keeps them near the top of the table. We played Gloucestershire first and were put into bat. Pete Rooney top scored with 20 and Jon Withers also chipped in with a useful 13 as we were dismissed in the last over for a competitive 75. Gloucestershire made light work of the run chase breezing to victory in just seven overs but not before Witho (1-15) had picked up a wicket. We also batted first in our second match of the night against Congresbury and reached a mammoth 135-3 in our 12 overs with Robbo batting excellently for 27 not out and Dave Pople (14) and Witho (12) also contributing important runs. Congresbury struggled to keep up with the required run rate and eventually lost their last wicket to the final ball of the innings with the score on 98. Dave Pople (2-22) and Witho (2-38) did the damage with the ball.
The 1st XI defeated Backwell Flax Bourton by five wickets tonight to go back to the top of the table. Huddy lost the toss and Backwell decided to bat first. They reached a modest total of 56 before losing their last wicket in the final over. Smalls (2-5) and Huddy (2-11) were the chief destroyers with Pazza (1-8) also picking up a wicket. We knocked off the runs in the seventh over for the loss of just one wicket. Wessy top scored with 27 not out and Boardy (24) and Smalls (7*) also made valuable contributions.
The 2nd XI played both Spaniels and Hambrook tonight and came away with one victory and one loss as both games were decided by a margin of four wickets. We played Spaniels first and were put into bat. Robbo top scored with 13 as we were bowled out for a disappointing 53 in the tenth over. Spaniels were made to work hard for their victory and it took them over ten overs to knock off the runs for the loss of two wickets. The spin twins, Dave Pople (1-9) and Tippo (1-12), were the only wicket takers. Hambrook batted first in our second match of the night and were dismissed for 57 with the spin twins doing the damage again. Dave Pople (2-7) and Tippo (2-15) picked up two apiece this time and Robbo (1-7) and Witho (1-17) also bowled well. After losing two early wickets a solid partnership by Witho (22*) and Dave Pople (11*) saw us to victory in the tenth over. |
