BLAGDON ARE IN THE POST!!
posted by Statto on Wednesday, 12 Feb, 2003

The pictures that I sent to the Evening Post following the indoor league final on 2 Feb have been published tonight together with a brief write up of the game.

This gave me the idea of creating a new section on the site entitled 'Blagdon in the press' where you can view a number of articles about the club and it's players that have appeared in the local press over the years. I've only had time to add a few of them tonight but will add the other stuff I've got tomorrow.

2004 TOUR?
posted by Butchy on Sunday, 9 Feb, 2003

I am considering organising a tour in 2004 probably going the weekend/week before the season starts and need feedback from club members as to how many want to go and where.

If you could give me a semi-definite reply by May/June this year I would be grateful. You can use the email link in the headline to contact me or you can phone me on 0777 3200181 (mobile) or 0117 9705113 (work) if you need any more info.

THREE YEARS OLD AND STILL GOING STRONG!!
posted by Statto on Thursday, 6 Feb, 2003

To mark the occasion of the site's third birthday (yes, it all started in Feb 2000) I have changed things around a bit on the home page. As you can see it's nothing drastic but I've wanted to add a headline for each update for a while now and have finally found a format I like which allows that. By the way that's a very small Wessy in the icon next to each headline.

Changes have also been made to the pictures section by reducing the number of categories displayed. Instead of there being a separate category for each season and event all of the 'action' pictures are now in one place regardless of which season they were taken and all 'end of season dinner' pictures are in the one place etc. This should hopefully make things easier to find.

I have also been busy on the stats front with season reviews being added from 1948 onwards. This is the earliest season for which scorebooks are still in existence so unless additional books are found in the future this will be as far back as I can go. I have only uploaded seasons 1948-1961 so far but will add the other ones as and when I get a chance over the next few weeks.

INDOOR LEAGUE
posted by Statto on Sunday, 2 Feb, 2003

The 1st XI played in the Indoor league play offs today and beat Old England by six wickets in the semi final but then lost to Winterbourne by 26 runs in the final.

Old England batted first in the semi final and were dismissed for just 46 with Byo (3-8) being the main destroyer and Huddy (1-12) also picking up a wicket. Sagey made a stumping and took a catch as well. Boardy (15* from 12 balls) and Wessy (11* from 9) then took just 4.4 overs to knock off the runs.

Winterbourne batted first in the final and thanks mainly to the lusty hitting of John Oakes (36) and Jim Williams (25) reached an impressive 97 all out in their innings with Wessy being the only wicket taker with 2-27. Gary Paramore deserves special mention for only conceding four runs in his 2.2 over spell. The run chase got off to the worst possible start when Boardy was dismissed for a duck to just the fourth ball of the innings. Wessy (3) and Byo (4) were then run out in quick succession and we were looking dead and buried but a good stand from Sagey and Huddy kept us in the hunt. Sagey was then roofed for 10 (from 15 balls) and Gary Paramore followed shortly afterwards for 8 (from 10 balls) which left Huddy needing to get 40 odd from three overs by himself. Despite a valiant effort which saw him hit three sixes in the last two overs he was eventually dismissed for 29 (from 27 balls) with one delivery of the innings left and the Blagdon total was 27 runs short of the victory target. Congratulations to Winterbourne on winning the trophy.

The other matches played today saw Winterbourne defeat Keynsham by two wickets in the other semi final and Keynsham defeat Old England by 17 runs in the third place play off.

All in all it was a very good season for us with Boardy being the leading run scorer with 317, Huddy being the leading wicket taker with 19 victims and Boardy making the most fielding dismissals with nine catches. A big thank you goes to Huddy who skippered the team superbly all season.

Pictures from the presentation ceremony will be posted here tomorrow night after Boardy has downloaded them from his camera!!
