The 1st XI played their last league match of the indoor season tonight and comfortably defeated Congresbury by 50 runs to finish joint top of the table with Keynsham. We batted first and scored a huge 107-4 in our 12 overs with Byo top scoring with 28, Wessy scoring 27 not out and Boardy scoring 17 to take his run tally for the season past the 300 mark. We then dismissed Congresbury for 57 with Byo being the chief destroyer taking three wickets and Huddy, Wessy and Gary Paramore each taking one. Wessy and Gary Paramore also took catches. Whether we play Old England or Winterbourne in the semi finals is unknown at this stage but the news will be posted here as soon as we receive confirmation. If the final league positions are decided on alphabetical order (which is absolutely ridiculous) then we will finish top and play Old England but if some other means of determining the positions is used we don't know what will happen yet.
The 2nd XI played their last game of the indoor season today against top of the table Winterbourne and were defeated by four wickets. We batted first and struggled to a modest total of 64-3 in our 12 overs with Statto (18 not out) the only batsman to reach double figures. Winterbourne then knocked off the runs comfortably but not before Jon Withers and James Hemming picked up a wicket each. This meant that we finished with a 50% record for the season having won nine and lost nine of our 18 matches. The highest run scorer with 230 was skipper Pete Rooney, the highest wicket taker with 13 victims was Tippo and the most fielding dismissals was by keeper John Tiley who had eight victims, six of which were stumped.
Pre season nets have now been arranged from 7.30-8.30pm for the first three Tuesdays in April which is the 1st, 8th and 15th of the month. They are to be held at the County Ground Indoor School which is the same as last year. There has also been another pre-season friendly arranged for the 2nd XI against Frenchay 3rds on 26 April at Frenchay.
The 1st XI played Backwell Flax Bourton tonight and beat them comfortably by four wickets. Backwell batted first and were dismissed for just 38 with Byo picking up 3-12 and Huddy picking up 1-7. Boardy and Buckers also held onto catches. The runs were then knocked off in the ninth over with Boardy scoring 16 off 17 balls and Buckers scoring 8 off 19.
Both teams were in action tonight with the 1st XI playing Old Down and the 2nd XI playing Bedminster. The 1st XI played first and defeated Old Down by three wickets. Old Down batted first and scored a competitive 76-2 in their allotted 12 overs with Andy Nairn (1-9) and Huddy (1-19) being the only wicket takers. Boardy took his customary catch and Pig also held one. We knocked off the runs with over two overs to spare thanks to a whirlwind 26 not out off just 10 balls by Andy Nairn who was ably assisted by Byo (14 off 21) and Pig (11* off 7). The 2nd XI then pulled off a great 45 run victory against Bedminster. We batted first and scored a huge 109-4 in our 12 overs with Robbo top scoring on 33 not out and Statto (32*) and Pete Rooney (12) also chipping in with valuable runs. Bedminster were then dismissed for 64 thanks to some great bowling from Tippo who picked up three wickets and Jon Withers who picked up one. John Tiley also made two stumpings.
The 2nd XI played the clubs first matches of 2003 today and ended with one win and one loss from their two games. The first match was against Bohemians and we lost by just 9 runs. Bohemians batted first and scored a getable 75-5 in their 12 overs with Tippo picking up two wickets, to become the first bowler to reach double figures this season, and Robbo picking up one. John Tiley also made a smart stumping. We were then dismissed for 66 with Tippo top scoring with 14. The second match was against Failand & Portbury and we won a nail biter by three wickets off the last ball of the game. Failand batted first and scored an impressive 88-5 in their 12 overs with Jon Withers the only wicket taker and Statto taking a catch. John Tiley (26 not out), Robbo (25 not out) and Jon Withers (14) then carried us to victory for the loss of just three wickets. |
