INDOOR LEAGUE

Just when we thought the season had finished Gloucester announced that we will be playing the matches cancelled earlier in the season because the opposition didn't turn up. We assumed we would be awarded a walkover but this is obviously not the case!!

The fixtures have been scheduled for 25 March, when the 2nd XI will be playing Almondsbury, and 1 April, when the 1st XI play Hargreaves Lansdown.

The 1st XI played their last two matches of the indoor season tonight and won both of them by a very comfortable margin to end on a high note.

Our first match of the night was against Hargreaves Lansdown and we batted first. We rattled up our highest total of the season by scoring 163-3 in our 12 overs with everyone getting into double figures and Wessy (28*) and Smalls (27*) being the highest scorers.

Hargreaves were never up with the required rate in their reply and thanks to some great bowling by Byo (2-21) and Boardy (1-22) they were dismissed for 78 in just eight overs to leave us victorious by 85 runs.

Our second match was against Bitton and we batted first again. This time we could only manage 134 all out but everyone batted well and Huddy top scored with 31.

Bitton didn't really seem interested in going for the victory as they carefully batted out their 12 overs to end on 62-3 which meant that we won by 72 runs. Smalls (1-12) and Wessy (1-16) were the pick of the bowlers.

End of season honours for the 1st XI go to Smalls on the batting front as he finished with a total of 336 runs, just overtaking Boardy (326 runs) in the final two matches, Huddy on the bowling front with 24 victims and Huddy again on the fielding front as he held 6 catches.

A big thankyou goes to Huddy who for the fourth year running skippered the side superbly throughout the season.

It is with sadness that I inform you of the death of former player Eddie Saint. Fid attended the funeral last week on behalf of the club and I have sent a donation on the club's behalf to Southmead Hospital Renal Unit.

Eddie was a very proficient wicket keeper who scored over 1000 runs for the club in 90 matches between 1948 and 1966.

The 1st XI played Old England tonight and were defeated by 15 runs to end any hopes we still had of reaching the finals.

Old England batted first and scored a competitive 84 all out in their allotted 12 overs with Huddy picking up 2-23 and Smalls (1-14) and Byo (1-23) also picking up wickets.

The run chase got off to a good start as Smalls (22) and Boardy (14) batted well but when they were out the batting collapsed and we ended up being dismissed for 69 in the last over.

INFORMATION FROM COMMITTEE MEETING
posted by Statto on Wednesday, 3 Mar, 2004

A few items of interest came out of the committee meeting held last night and they are listed below.

Pete Westbrook has organised another quiz night which will be held at the Blagdon Village Club on 17 April. The quiz will start at 7.30pm and if you would like to enter a team please let Pete know as soon as possible.

The remaining Sunday XI/Friendly fixtures have now been agreed. You will notice that the once regular Presidents XI vs Chairmans XI match has been restored to the fixture list which should add a bit of fun to the end of the season.

The equipment shed has finally given in and a new one will be required by the start of the season.

The 2nd XI played their last match of the indoor season tonight and lost by 46 runs to top of the table Winterbourne.

Winterbourne batted first and scored an impressive 111-5 in their allotted 12 overs with Dave Pople returning the excellent figures of 3-6 and Witho picking up 1-26.

The run chase got off to a slow start and we were eventually dismissed for 65 in the last over with Dave Pople topping off his man of the match performance with a blistering 17 and Boardy batting well to score 11.

End of season honours go to Tippo on the bowling front with a magnificent 28 victims (the highest number taken in a season by a Blagdon player thus far) and Robbo on the fielding front who held 10 catches.

A big thankyou goes to Pete Rooney for skippering the side so well throughout the season and also to Robbo who stood in for him when he wasn't available.
