Congratulations to Blagdon Under 11's captain Tom Blanchard who has been selected by Somerset County CC to play for the County U11's squad in 2005. Tom was put forward for full County trials after successfully completing the training programme for the district North West Corners team. He subsequently attended two indoor nets trials, one at the Centre of Excellence at The County Ground in Taunton, and played for Somerset in two representative trial matches before finally being named in the County U11 squad. The squad includes just 14 boys from around 200 who were originally recommended. Tom begins his representative season with games for North West Somerset in the Corners series at the beginning of June. His full County programme of eight 40 over fixtures gets underway on 19th June against Devon at Exeter. There are further games against Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Nottinghamshire, Wiltshire, Buckinghamshire and Wales twice. Tom is a local boy from Ubley and currently attends Ubley Primary School. He is also a keen footballer and plays number 9 for Wells City U11s. He has been leading goalscorer for the past three seasons, finding the back of the net over 30 times in the season just ended. Blagdon youth co-ordinator Lionel Harrison says "This is really excellent news for Tom and the Club and we are naturally very proud of his achievement and the boost this gives our youth development program. This will hopefully attract even more youngsters to come and play cricket for us. Tom arrived at this Club a couple of seasons ago and normally at that age would initially be started in our KWIK cricket section but after just a few glimpses of his batting & bowling we recognised his talent and immediately had him playing in our U11's league team from where he has gone from strength to strength and often plays in our U13's team too. All Clubs are keen to discover 'the cricketers of the future' and in Tom we have done so." A

A AThere is another clash of a May Bank Holiday fixture, this time on the 30th May when the 2nds are playing a Home League game, so I have agreed with Cheddar that we will not play our fixture at all on that Monday and have opted to re-arrange it for Monday 27th June. A

The weather has rendered the pitch unfit to play on so the match has been cancelled and will now be played on 11 May. |
