GOLF DAY
posted by Buckers on Tuesday, 16 Sep, 2003

Now that the cricket season is finally over, I will be arranging a Blagdon golf day in the near future and would like to know your thoughts/availability.

I have pencilled in five possible days to choose from: Friday 3 Oct, Saturday 4 Oct, Monday 6 Oct, Friday 10 Oct, Saturday 11 Oct.

I have a number of good/decent courses (Kendelshire, Thornbury, Tracy Park, Shirehampton, Henbury...etc) in mind for the day. The cost should be in the region of £20-£40 per person.

First of all, can you let me know if you are interested in the Blagdon Golf Day, what day you prefer above (or perhaps mention another preferred day - all suggestions welcome) and what course you prefer from the above (or perhaps a suggestion of your own).

Please let me know if you are interested by Wednesday 24th September and in the meantime I will check out availability/costs of courses.

Our last match of the season was played against Coalpit Heath today and we ran out winners by 43 runs.

We batted first and scored a competitive 222-7 in our 40 overs with Tim Smallridge (61) scoring his first fifty for the club and Boardy (42) and Buckers (30) also making useful contributions.

Coalpit could only reach 177-9 in their run chase with Butchy (3-11) and Huddy (2-37) being the main wicket takers.

The season ends with Boardy being the leading run scorer with 824 at an average of 45.78 and Huddy being the top wicket taker with 52 victims at an average of 17.48. Huddy also made the most fielding dismissals with 19 catches to cap a fine year for him.

The youth presentation evening was held tonight and the Blagdon Village Club was packed to the rafters with over 100 people attending.

The evening started with each of the team managers reading out their season reviews and announcing who their player of the year and clubman of the year award winners were. There were also a few special awards announced. The full list is as follows:

Most promising young player of the year - Haydon Lyons
Under 15 player of the year - Tom Bond
Under 15 clubman of the year - Jenny Withers
Under 15 hat-trick taker - Russ Moore
Under 13 player of the year - Simon Hill
Under 13 clubman of the year - Jacob Hartrey
Under 11 player of the year - Will Yard
Under 11 clubman of the year - Ross McAuliffe

The evening was rounded off with a very nice buffet and the usual skittles and darts competitions.

A big thank you goes once again to 'H' for organising the evening and for all the hard work and effort he puts into Blagdon's youth setup year after year as well as all those people who helped throughout the season.

FRIENDLIES
posted by Statto on Sunday, 7 Sep, 2003

With the league season now finished there were just two friendly matches played this weekend.

Saturday saw Lion CC visit the Bartons in the now annual fixture against Stiff and the Nairns' old club. Tampa and Jenny Withers also played for them this year and the match turned out to be a very exciting one.

We batted first and rattled up a massive total of 245-3 thanks to whirlwind knocks from Boardy (104* from 68 balls) and Jimmer (55* from 36 balls). Caddy (38* from 33 balls) and Buckers (27) also made useful contributions. Andy Nairn bowled excellently for Lion picking up figures of 1-23 from his ten overs.

Lion fell just short of the victory target with 241-8 thanks to some big hitting from Stiff (63) and Andy Nairn (55) after Tampa (37) had laid the early foundations. Tim Smallridge again impressed with the ball taking 2-25 in a hostile five over spell and was backed up well by Boardy (2-6), Caddy (1-19) and Witho (1-34).

The Sunday XI travelled to Bedminster to play their last fixture of the season and ran out winners by 51 runs in a game that set a new club record for the highest match aggregate of 607 runs.

We batted first and scored a mammoth 329-6 in our 40 overs, which is only the second time in the clubs history that we have passed the 300 run mark. Simon Robertson (159) scored the fourth highest individual innings in the clubs history whilst Wessy (84) chalked up his 99th half century for the club. They put on 215 runs for the second wicket which is a new club record.

Bedminster made a great effort to get the runs and ended up on 278-9 in their reply. Jimmer bowled well at the death to pick up 4-53 and Huddy (1-32) and Ronaldo (1-40) also picked up wickets.

YOUTH PRESENTATION EVENING
posted by 'H' on Monday, 1 Sep, 2003

This is just a reminder that the youth presentation evening is being held at the Blagdon Village Club on 12 September.

There will be presentations (commencing at 7.45pm sharp!) for the Most Promising Young Player (from all levels), Player of the Year and Clubman of the Year at U15's, U13's and U11's level as well as Certificates of proficiency for all the KWIK cricketers who took part in the scheme. The usual Buffett, skittles and darts competitions are also being organised to finish the evening off.

It would be nice if we could again have some of the Senior club members present on this evening, especially team Captains/Vice Captains. If any Seniors are interested in attending please let me know, for catering purposes, by the end of this coming week.
