CLUB GOLF DAY

The Blagdon Golf Day has been booked at Stockwood Vale Golf Club on Saturday 25th September with the first tee-off time being 13:35 (3 tee-offs booked).

The cost of this is £19 per person for the round. As it is a Saturday, I don't think I can do a society deal - but food will be available in the clubhouse afterwards for those who want it.

Can everyone please confirm to me that you can make the booked date.

ED's LEGAL BEAGLES v H's ALL STARS
posted by 'H' on Tuesday, 7 September, 2004

Sunday saw the last game of the season played at the Barton's on what must have been the hottest day of the summer under clear blue skies. The friendly 35 overs a side game, as a 50th birthday surprise for one of the opposition team members, was played in a super atmosphere with food and drink freely available throughout the afternoon. The legal Beagles were all experienced cricketers but not quite as 'fit as they used to be', whilst the All Star's contained a mixture of youth and experience in the form of four U15's; three 2nd XI players supported by several Youth Team managers/assistant's/coaches.

This did not mean the game was not taken seriously though as Ed's team were invited to bat first and presented a formidable opening partnership which was not broken until some 70 runs were on the board inside of 15 overs and an end total of 200 looked possible. However, once the opening pair had been dismissed some control was regained of the scoring rate and eventually the Legal Beagles were restricted to 157-6.

The All Star's reply was pretty well always up with the required run rate, anchored by a typical innings of 60+ from Ben Lyons. Useful contributions were made by Garth Tiley, John Tiley, Robin Honeywill and Steve Blanchard and the target was within striking distance with 5 overs to go. However, Ben's dismissal left us needing 18 runs with one wicket left and 2 overs to go but the last wicket fell in the 34th over (yours truly pleading injury from the day before) to leave us all out on 142 and fifteen runs short.

CHAIRMANS XI v PRESIDENTS XI
posted by Statto on Saturday, 4 September, 2004
A
Today's Chairmans XI v Presidents XI match was played in great spirit at the Bartons with the Presidents XI running out winners by 69 runs.

To ensure that everyone playing got as much of a game as possible the format used was two 20 over innings with the batting order reversed in the second innings and the bowlers in the first innings not being able to bowl in the second innings. The scorecard from the match can be viewed here.

Hopefully this will become a regular fixture in the future.

CLUB GOLF DAY
posted by Buckers on Wednesday, 1 September, 2004

It's time to start thinking about the Blagdon Annual Golf Day. This has been a great success for the last three years and I will shortly arrange another one for this year. Below are a number of proposed dates:

Saturday 18th Sept, Saturday 25th Sept, Saturday 2nd Oct

Please let me know if you are interested and what date you prefer by Wednesday 8th September. I will then book the most popular day. I am looking at Stockwood Vale this year as I played there recently and it is in fantastic condition - plus it is one of those courses where hackers (like Statto) are most welcome! The cost will be around £20.
