Following my earlier emails the new cricket season is now nearly upon us (and the wet weather is here to prove it !) so we are offering a warm welcome to you all to continue/join us either as existing members/players or as newcomers. We look forward to receiving your child(rens) renewed or new membership to join us for the 2010 season at The Bartons and our detailed arrangements for registration and pre-season activities are listed below, so please make a note of these.
As last season we have entered two U11's, one U13 and one U15 team(s) into the NSYCL and are providing coaching sessions, as below, in order to manage these teams and, of course, caters for our Juniors(KWIKeters) starting at year 3 (year 2 ONLY if spaces available).
This newsletter details the various arrangements and dates involved together with other items of interest.
Registration ONLY nights are on Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st March from 6pm until 7.30pm in the Cricket Pavilion
Registration by this means is required for all players up to and including those who are Under 18 as at the 1st September last year (2009). Hopefully one or other of these dates will be convenient for you to attend, please note IT IS NECESSARY for any children who are 12 and over on the above date to be present at registration and sign the registration form.
On both nights our Child Welfare Officer and some of our Coaches/Managers will be on hand should you have anything you wish to discuss with them! If conditions are wet please do not drive into the ground, can you please park at the rear of the Live & Let Live or use one of the side streets close to the ground.
Again in order to help Managers with selection and also to give our coaches time to properly plan things in advance would you please complete, as appropriate, the attached availability sheet. Can you please print it and just fill in the name under the appropriate team heading and mark X against the date(s) when not available and bring the form with you on the night.
Indoor Nets - Chew Valley School Leisure Center on two more Friday's - 9th and 16th April between 8pm and 9pm
There are still two more 1 hour sessions remaining for U13/U15's/U18's at a cost £3.00pp which will be supervised by Coaches/Managers.
Attendances at the two previous sessions on 19th (10) and 26th (7) March were very disappointing so, hopefully, once Easter is out of the way we can look forward to seeing a bit more interest!! (Older boys 18+ can attend Senior indoor nets at the County ground as well (see our website for details)
Special Outdoor Coaching
As announced previously for KWIKeters and U11's there is an early start with a CRICKET FUNdamentals day on 8 April at the cricket ground from 10.00am - 4.00pm. This will be a day of cricket fun, skills, drills and games run by the clubs two ECB trained level 2 coaches. Places will be limited to allow maximum participation and coaching (Cost - £10, £5 for second sibling) and there are still a few left so if you don't want to miss out then please contact Tony George U11's Manager and Kwik Cricket Co-ordinator (Tel:- 01761 462048). There will also be two additional pre-season outdoor nets/training for this group on Sunday 18 April and 25 April at 4.00pm
Main Coaching/Outdoor nets start on Tues/Weds 20th/21st April until the summer holidays

Coaches
Congratulations are in order to Tony George on having successfully completed an upgrade to ECB level 2 to join Andy Cadman at that level, further improving our coaching capabilities. We are also pleased to say that as well as Alan Barwick, James Butcher and Sam Honeywill we will now have additional occasional help from more recently qualified (ECB Level 1) club players Tom Coles and Alex Wall who have obtained this status during their continuing educational studies, so bringing our total coaching strength up to 7.
Organisation of the Junior(KWIKeters) and Management of the League Teams will be as follows:-

· U13 – Andy Cadman; Assistants: Ed Heath, Sam Honeywill..................................... League games played THURSDAY evenings 6.15 pm
· U15 – Chris Strong – Assistant: Kevin Davies..........................…............................. League games played MONDAY evenings 6.15 pm
· U17 – Cricket for this age group is continuing under the reformed Blagdon Blades playing in Division 3 of the Senior Sunday NSCL.
League Fixtures are as shown on the attached availability charts. These will soon be viewable on our website above and fixture cards will be issued to all asap. An end of season friendly day game (11am onwards) has also been arranged with Kings Langley C.C. U12's (last years U11's) on Monday 2nd August who are touring our area that week.
Subscriptions £27 for the first child and £17 for each other
Match Fees are £2.50 @ U11's; £3 @ U13’s; £3.50 @ U15’s and £4 @ U17's.
Kit
Match playing equipment is provided by the club. Club identity is important and so we would like players to only wear Blagdon Club Kit, especially at League Matches. Plain 'whites' are perfectly acceptable but we ask your co-operation in not kitting out your children in school colours or the like please. We have club motif embroidered 'fit any size' caps available @ £7:50 each and cricket shirts/sweaters with the club logo which can be purchased in a variety of youths sizes - Shirts are priced between £13-£18 and Sweaters £22-£26. All these will be available on the registration evenings.
New Players
We are always keen to encourage and attract new members/players to our club, if you know of anyone who might be interested in playing for us then please put them in contact with me or pass on a copy of this newsletter to them. We would still like to enrol a few more youngsters across all age groups, particularly at U15's.
Under an initiative being led by Somerset CCC, and following on from last seasons tremendous achievements by the England Women's Cricket Team (who are based at the County ground) in winning not only their equivalent ashes series versus the Australians, but also the World and T20 Cups, clubs are being asked to raise more awareness and generate encouragement for girls/women to join the sport. SO WHERE ARE ALL YOU BUDDING FEMALE CRICKETERS - we would like to hear from any of you who are keen enough to give it a go and see if there is potential to get a team together, initially in the age group 13 to 15, but by no means restricted to that age if you are at all interested !!
Fundraising
If you were not a member last season perhaps you would consider joining our V-P(Vice-Presidents) Club for £15 and stand the chance of winning 16 weekly prizes of £30 or £15 - or 4 monthly prizes of £45. If you were a member in 2009 then we hope you will re-join. Forms will be available on registration evenings.
