Blagdons
first League Game of the 2002 season was always going to be an intriguing
affair, not just because of the 4 new players on display but also the
unknown quality of the Lodway team, following their relegation from
the B & D Premier Division last year.
Andy Nairn, Blagdons new pace man was the first player on display after
Blagdon won the toss and elected to bowl first on a slow wicket. In
a lively first over, he clean bowled the opening batsman with his 6th
ball. He followed this up a couple of overs later with 2 wickets in
successive balls - including a broken wicket.
To cap this amazing spell of fast, accurate bowling, Nairn took a hat-trick
to finish with brilliant figures of 7 overs 7 wickets for 8 runs - what
a debut!!
An excellent run out from Westbrook and wickets from Davies and Butcher
ended the rout with Lodway scoring a miserable 37 all out in 15.3 overs
Blagdon openers Board and another new player, Ian Nairn (Andy's twin
brother) rubbed salt into the Lodway wounds by knocking off the runs
in 4.5 overs without the loss of any wickets.
