Blagdon,
with 6 regulars missing, entertained Lodway on a fine day at the Bartons.
Blagdon won an important toss on a damp pitch and asked Lodway to don
the pads.
Very tight bowling followed from John Hazard and James Butcher ensured
the Lodway batsmen had to work hard for every run and when Paul Hudd
and Rob Davies took over the bowling duties, there was a greater sense
of urgency from the batsmen. Hudd, with his usual accuracy ensured the
run rate was kept down and his three important wickets were well deserved.
Davies, bowling his canny medium pace up the hill, confused and deceived
the batsmen with what can only be described technically as dippers,
floaters and shooters. His six wickets were picked up for only seventeen
runs in an excellent spell of bowling which finished the Lodway innings
at 120 all out.
After a fine range of sandwiches and cakes, Blagdon approached their
victory target with wise caution. When the first three batsmen were
dismissed with only 57 on the board, there was a slight concern in the
camp, but Mark Sage and Roger Hemming put on a splendid partnership
of 58 to all but seal the match. Only the late dismissal of Sage for
44 blemished yet another excellent innings, but Hemming was Mr Cool
to ensure the game finished with yet another Blagdon win.
