Blagdon
came to Old Down seeking their fourth successive victory of the season
and even though captain Simon Westbrook lost the toss and Blagdon were
asked to bat, both for the first time this season, the result of the
match always seemed like another win as the skipper himself and Ian
Nairn unleashed a fine display of stroke play to move Blagdon to a very
strong position of 142 for 1 with 13 overs still remaining. With the
loss of Nairn for 84, Simon Byas smashed a quick 32 and only some rain
interruptions and a slight batting collapse in the search for quick
runs reduced Blagdon to 215 for 7.
Following the tea break, Old Down started their run chase in spirited
fashion and always kept a healthy run rate, but the persistent accuracy
and pace of Andy Nairn kept a firm grip on the game for Blagdon as he
clean bowled the first 4 Old Down wickets. Useful backup bowling from
Rob Davies, Paul Hudd and Simon Byas assisted by good fielding and catching
ensured another Blagdon success by 34 runs.
