After
both teams had enjoyed an England victory in the World Cup, the toss
was won by Blagdon on a damp pitch at the Bartons and Patchway were
asked to bat first.
Following two early wickets from the swing bowling of James Butcher,
Patchway grafted their way back into a reasonable position, but tidy
bowling from the Blagdon attack kept them pegged back to 88 for 5 when
the rain intervened and 6 overs were lost. Patchway returned with just
8 overs to bat and performed well to post a challenging score of 139
for 8.
Blagdon started positively with Jeremy Board showing a welcome return
to form with a brisk 45. Simon Westbrook and Mark Sage kept the momentum
going to ensure another comfortable and fifth successive victory for
League leaders Blagdon.
