On
a fine day at Pucklechurch, Blagdon won the toss and elected to bat
first. The early overs saw a rapid start for Blagdon and although 2
wickets went down with just 44 runs having been scored, Simon Byas and
Jeremy Board kept the score ticking over with some good running in a
partnership of 68 runs.
After Byas was dismissed for 15, Board went on to score 100 from just
83 balls. His innings was a fine display of selective hitting and contained
12 fours and 4 sixes. After Board's dismissal with the score at 147
for 5, Blagdon needed to consolidate with another 18 overs still to
be bowled. Andy Nairn and Paul Hudd batted cautiously at first and then
with terrific acceleration, they propelled the Blagdon score to an excellent
247 for 9 including Nairn's maiden fifty for Blagdon.
After Tea, Pucklechurch lost 2 early wickets and had to rebuild their
innings. This meant they fell behind the run rate and although there
were good knocks from Gary Vile and Alex Harris, Simon Byas soon accounted
for both their wickets with his excellent off spin, and the game was
all but over. Byas picked up a further 3 wickets to finish with fine
figures of 5 for 44. The main support came from Andy Nairn's pace with
3 for 41 as Pucklechurch finally succumbed to 156 all out.
