Blagdon
lost the toss on a grey day at Coombe Dingle and were asked to bat first
on a damp pitch.
After slow progress through the first 15 overs and the loss of both
openers, Simon Westbrook and Mark Sage crafted a fine partnership of
106 with some excellent running between the wickets and selective hitting.
After Sage was dismissed for 46 including 2 huge sixes, Westbrook went
on to score his 48th league fifty and Blagdon made a late surge to finish
on an impressive 177 for 8.
After Tea, The University Staff batsmen tried hard but could not gain
any momentum mainly due to some excellent fast bowling from Andy Nairn
and the wily spin of Simon Byas. Apart from a stylish knock from their
captain, James Hobbs, the staff room boys were given a thorough examination
and were taught a lesson of the highest degree. They eventually finished
well short on 130 for 9.
