Statistical notes:
P.Hudd took his seventh 1st XI league five wicket haul
T.Smallridge reached his 50 from 107 balls (5x4)
T.Smallridge scored his first 1st XI league fifty
Byo lost the toss
in this top of the table clash (Almondsbury were top and we were second)
and Phil Mortimore, the Almondsbury skipper, decided to bat first.
The Almondsbury innings got off to a quick start despite the early
loss of Rob Young who was bowled by the ever reliable Gary Paramore
for 10. Gary Goodwin and Greg Stephens put on 52 from 84 balls for
the second wicket before Paramore struck again to dismiss the dangerous
Stephens which left the score on 75-2 after 20 overs. Goodwin and
Tommy Armfield batted sensibly to add a further 27 runs for the third
wicket before Huddy was brought into the attack and struck twice in
seven balls to leave the innings at 105-4 after 29.1 overs. After
a further 20 runs had been added for the fifth wicket five wickets
fell within the space of seven overs for the addition of just 21 runs
to leave the innings faltering on 146-9 after 40 overs. Huddy did
most of the damage as he added a further three wickets to his earlier
two which completed his seventh five wicket haul for the club. Some
good hitting by last man Imran (19 from 13 balls) took the final total
to 170 before he was dismissed by Andy Nairn. Huddy ended with the
fantastic figures of 5-41, Nairny took 3-53 and Pazza took 2-32.
Our run chase got off to a bad start as Ian Nairn (5) was dismissed
in the third over with the total on just five but Smalls and Wessy
batted brilliantly to put on 94 for the second wicket before Wessy
hit a full toss down deep square legs throat after scoring 40. Boardy
then hit a rapid 17 and Byo hit 13 before they both holed out to long
on which left the score at 140-4 after 36.1 overs. Smalls was happily
going about his business at the other end while these wickets were
falling and reached his first league fifty for the club from 107 balls.
He was eventually dismissed for 67 with just eight needed for victory
which brought Andy Nairn (4*) to the crease who knocked off the required
runs with Stiff (11*) with more than two overs to spare.
