Byo lost the toss
and Chipping Sodbury skipper John Toghill decided to bat first.
Their innings got off to a good start with Bennett and Scully putting
on 32 for the first wicket. Scully was then involved in a partnership
of 46 for the third wicket with Richardson which took the Chipping
Sodbury total to 89-3 after 25.3 overs. This became 120-7 after some
fine bowling from Andy Nairn and a brilliant run out from Witho but
an unbroken stand of 89 from just 65 balls between Clapp and Wood
took the final Chipping total up to a very competitive 209-7 from
their allotted 45 overs. Andy Nairn finished with the excellent figures
of 3-40, Huddy took 2-42 and Byo (1-56) was the other wicket taker.
Our run chase got off to a great start with Boardy playing in his
usual aggressive style and Smalls elegantly working the ball into
the gaps. They put on 95 for the first wicket before Smalls played
on for 24. Tampa then joined Boardy at the wicket and they put on
a further 51 runs from 63 balls before Boardy was excellently caught
by Toghill at extra cover for 78 to leave the score at 146-2 after
30.4 overs. Tampa and Ian Nairn took the score up to 184-2 from 38
overs and a victory looked on the cards but after Tampa was brilliantly
caught by Clapp on the boundary for 48 we collapsed dramatically and
lost a further six wickets in just 32 balls for the addition of only
23 runs. This left the last wicket pair of Buckers and Jimmer needing
to score three runs from nine balls for victory and with a lovely
flick off his legs for four Buckers saw us home to a thrilling one
wicket win.
