Statistical notes:
S.Byas reached his 50 from 56 balls (7x4, 1x6)
S.Byas scored his 6th 1st XI league fifty
A.Nairn took his 9th 1st XI league five wicket haul
Milestones reached:
P.Hudd - 300 wickets in all matches for the club
Byo lost the toss
for the seventh time in eight matches this season and Cleeve skipper
Ken Carpenter asked us to bat first.
The innings got off to a bad start with Boardy (2) being dismissed
in just the second over but a stand of 41 between Smalls and Wessy
put the innings back on track before Smalls (16) mis-timed a pull
to mid wicket. Ian Nairn (0) and Tampa (7) came and went quickly before
Byo joined Wessy at the crease to share in a 29 run stand for the
fifth wicket. After Wessy was dismissed for a typically classy 42
Byo opened his shoulders and hit three huge sixes together with seven
fours in a magnificent score of 63 from 63 balls before holing out
to deep mid wicket. Jon Withers then batted sensibly to score 25,
his highest 1st XI league score so far, and helped by Nairny (9),
Buckers (9) and Huddy (10*) got the score up to 200-9 from our allotted
45 overs.
The Cleeve innings got off to a slow start due to some great fast
bowling from Andy Nairn and excellent line and length stuff from Huddy.
Wickets tumbled at regular intervals and the innings collapsed to
48-7 after 20 overs but a stand of 29 for the eighth wicket ensured
that Cleeve got up to the 75 run mark and their first batting point.
Nairny broke the eighth wicket partnership by bowling Jeff Lewis to
complete his second five wicket haul of the season and with Gary Long
unable to bat after injuring his knee whilst fielding Ian Nairn took
the last Cleeve wicket with his third ball to ensure maximum points.
Andy Nairn finished with figures of 5-22, Huddy 3-48 and Ian Nairn
1-1. Huddy's three wickets takes him up to the 300 wicket milestone
in all matches for the club where he joins only 15 other players to
have achieved this feat.
