Byo won the toss
for just the second time this season and asked Coalpit Heath to bat.
They got off to a good start with the opening pair of Paul Seaman
and Andy Chambers putting on 45 before Pazza dismissed Chambers' for
27. Another good stand of 43 for the third wicket between Seaman (34)
and skipper Dean May (41) put them in a good position to make a big
total but tight bowling from Pazza, Huddy and Andy Nairn ensured that
the run rate never got above four an over and the innings was eventually
wrapped up in the 43rd over with the total on 150. Pazza returned
the best figures of 3-37 and was ably supported by Nairny (3-50),
Byo (2-5) and Huddy (2-50).
Our run chase got off to the perfect start with Boardy hitting the
first ball of the innings for six and then following it up with three
consecutive fours in the second over. After trying to hit one ball
too many out the ground he fell for 24 in the fifth over with the
score on 28. This brought Wessy to the crease who joined Ian Nairn
in a partnership of 24 for the second wicket to take the total to
52-2 after 11.4 overs. Sagey, playing just his fourth match of the
season, was the next man in and put on 26 with Nairny before Nairny
was dismissed for 22 which left us on 78-3 after 23.2 overs. Byo came
and went quickly for a duck and Stiff hung around a while for 9 before
he was dismissed with the total on 103-5 after 31.5 overs. The next
four balls saw both Andy Nairn and Witho dismissed for ducks and the
match had swung in Coalpit's favour at 104-7 after 32.3 overs. One
of the strengths of the current 1st XI team is in the depth of our
batting and we certainly showed that during this game as Huddy (24*)
batted excellently with Sagey (38*) to score the required 47 runs
for victory and pull off an unlikely victory with eight balls to spare.
