Statistical notes:
Blagdon innings contained one five ball over
Bright sunshine greeted
the players at the Bartons this week as Byo lost the toss again and
we were asked to bat first.
The opening pair of Smalls and Ian Nairn got us off to a good start
by adding 50 runs before Smalls (17) was bowled by the lively Gary
Ball. Nairny (15) followed shortly afterwards along with Wessy (1),
Boardy (4), Tampa (0) and Stiff (0) to leave us on a precarious 65-6
after 22.5 overs. A partnership of 28 for the seventh wicket between
Byo (26) and Huddy (7) steadied the ship and a brisk 17 from Andy
Nairn helped the last three wickets add a further 29 runs to take
the final total to a below par 122 all out.
The Twyford run chase got off to a bad start as they were reduced
to 15-3 inside the first six overs as Pazza proved to be almost unplayable
from the top end. Mark Fowler (30) was then involved in partnerships
of 18 and 31 for the fourth and fifth wicket respectively to get Twyford
back on track but after he was dismissed two wickets fell within the
space of 12 balls to leave Twyford faltering on 67-7 after 25.4 overs.
A partnership of 37 for the eighth wicket between Robin Moore (22)
and Andy Kemp (13) put Twyford right back into the match but when
they were both dismissed within the space of two balls the match had
swung back in our favour. A spirited last wicket stand of 13 saw Twyford
almost snatch victory but Wessy (2-8) had other ideas and he bowled
Gary Ball with the second ball of the 43rd over to end the innings
on 117. Pazza ended up with the excellent figures of 4-15 from 13
overs and Huddy took 3-19. Special mention also has to go to Stiff
behind the stumps who took three great catches as well as a brilliant
stumping.
