MATCH REPORT
Prior to this game a few well chosen words were used to express the
degree of displeasure at the previous Tuesday's NCA KO Cup antics with
the expectation that we could not possibly play so badly again! Weston
were invited to bat first. 2 wickets in the first over by Ben Lyons
(2-6) set the scene and within 11 overs Weston were reduced 20 - 7 with
Garth Tiley taking (2-7), Oli Payne (1-23) assisted by 2 run outs. The
attack was relaxed a little at this point to ensure a game and we again
used 8 bowlers The distinct sense of 'we mean business' pervaded throughout
the team as Jacob Hartrey (1-11), David Eagon (1-7) and Archie Stead
(1-1) chipped in with a wicket apiece. Thus Weston were bowled out for
43 inside 16 overs (including only 3 wides!).
Not wishing to let any complacency enter into the situation our batting
response was equally devastating as Garth Tiley (10), Archie Stead (19n.o.)
and Ben Lyons (16n.o) powered their way through the Weston attack. Victory
by 9 wickets was achieved on the last ball of only our 5th over with
the score at 46-1. A comprehensive win by any standards. Although proving
a point this win provided little compensation for the missed opportunity
of a place in the NCA KO final and no doubt the team are regretting
their unaccountable lapse of form in the previous game.
If we are to gain any honours this season it will have to be by winning
the league but although it is nearly the end of June we have only played
(and won) 2 games so there is a long way to go. Cancelled/postponed
games have to be re-arranged around already existing fixtures going
into Mid August and for some of these we already do not have full team
availability anyway! The season could possibly run into Early September
unless other midweek dates can be used.
