Sunday 22 June - WRINGTON - Home
Blagdon 233 ; Wrington 235 - Lost by 2 runs
In the searing heat, and euphoric after the previous week’s
cliffhanging match, Blagdon U11’s met the Wrington U11’s
team on home soil, keen to continue their winning run.
Blagdon were first up to bat, with mixed success. Some excellent
batting, was nevertheless brought to check by the loss of several
wickets bringing the final total to just 233. Blagdon’s best
batsmen were James Day (9–1) and Ed Williams (7 n.o.) and
Clayton Davis (5 n.o.).
With an unremarkable batting score, Blagdon U11’s set out
to contain the Wrington side with a run of good bowling and able
fielding. With the temperature rising, we saw the game closing to
the final over, with Wrington needing 3 runs from the last ball
to win. A blistering shot off the last ball resulted in a boundary,
leaving Blagdon experiencing the bitter pill of losing by just 2
runs. A fine overall performance by both teams, but a disappointing
result for the Blagdon side. After two such close games providing
such an exciting climax, a comfortable victory in the coming match
would be most welcome for all concerned, especially for those parents
with high blood pressure……
Blagdon’s best bowlers were Archie Wall (2 – 2) and
Tom Coles (0 – 1).
