MATCH REPORT
Our
last game of the season entailed a second trek to Uphill after having
made the journey once before only to be thwarted by rain. This time
the conditions were not much better, cloudy and dismal but at least
it was not raining, yet!
Uphill batted first but it was not long before Tom Bond achieved the
breakthrough again claiming the first 2 wickets to fall whilst Uphill
had reached 24 by the 5th over. Their mainstay P.Creamer (34) lost partners
regularly until he become one of the victims of an accurate couple of
overs from Lloyd Davies (2-6). S.Winn (11) was the only other batsmen
to reach double figures as Jenny Withers (1-18); Archie Stead (1-18)
and George Bond (1-4) all kept up the pressure with good bowling spells.
Tom Bond returned for his and the final over and wrapped up the Uphill
innings - 90 all out - with a further 2 wickets finishing with an impressive
4-23.
This was certainly a gettable total but with already fading light it
would not be an easy task. Openers Ali Palmer (8) and Alex Wall (6)
found it difficult to make much headway and their removals in the 4th
and 8th overs had left us struggling on 20-2 and well behind the run
rate. However, captain Archie Stead (34no) and Tom Bond (31no), despite
the ever increasing gloom and difficulty to see the ball, batted sensibly
to compile an unbroken match winning stand of 74 runs in the next 10
overs as we reached the target with 2 overs to spare but no light left!
A well fought for but not as easy as it seemed 8 wicket victory to finish
off the season.
