MATCH REPORT
Our visitors, for this twice postponed game, had
last season walked away with the League Championship boasting an undefeated
record and went on to compete in the County level stages of the Sun
Life of Canada National competition. We would do well to give them a
run for their money!
Put
into bat first we were reduced to 9 for 5 inside of six overs with Ali
Palmer, Tom Bond and Rhys Davies all consigned to the pavilion for ducks.
Archie Stead (3) only fared a little better. We had no answer to the
pace of T.Main (4-17). If it had not been for a heroic performance by
captain Adam Crooks (33) we would probably have been blown away inside
10 overs. As it was batting at number 5 and arriving at the crease in
the 5th over after our top order had been decimated he produced the
only real resistance to Weston’s attack. Although B.Freeman (3-13)
had threatened to run through our lower order, with help from Adam Burroughs
(3) and Josh Chastney (5) and a few extras, Adam led an excellent recovery
as we managed to bat out all our remaining overs to reach a respectable
total of 78-9.
This was never going to be enough against the prolific W-S-M batting
side for whom the Main brothers (Tom 24 no and Ben 42) opened. Despite
a hostile bowling spell from Tom Bond (2-24), who took the only 2 wickets
to fall and was on a hat-trick, the target was duly reached inside 11
overs as Weston cruised to 79-2 and an easy 8 wicket win.
