SUNDAY, 25 JULY vs NAILSEA at NAILSEA
Blagdon 264-2, Nailsea 262-5 - Won by 30 runs

We played Nailsea on a very blustery day, lost the toss and batted first. Just like previous seasons, we batted steadily and only lost two wickets. Runs came regularly each over, mainly through wides and no-balls, so the scoreboard ticked over nicely. They reserved their best bowlers for our middle order. However, Ele Yard and Adam Martin proved up to the task and kept their wickets intact against the best attack we have seen all year. Ed Williams and Will Yard were the final pair and, once again, lit up the innings by adding 30. We finished on 264 for 2 and were reasonably happy.

We decided to pitch our best bowlers in early to get a quick advantage. Luckily this came in the 6, 7 and 8th overs when we claimed 3 quick wickets with some very accurate bowling. Alex Fudge did really well with 3 overs, 2 maidens, 2 wickets for 4 runs. Ed also got two good wickets and Peter Strong maintained his average of 1 a match. Having shot our bolt we were then faced with Mike Willmott coming in to bat. What a star! He smashed the ball all over the place and top-scored with 26 not out. This set up the best finish of the season where Nailsea only needed 10 runs from the last 4 overs and we had used all our best bowlers. Alex grabbed a quick wicket as Nailsea tried to hit out and then, in the final over, only needing 4 runs they got 1 and then another. Down to the last 3 balls; first one dot, then a second. The tension was huge. The final ball was a mad scramble by everyone but Nailsea didn't quite make it. We had won by just 2 runs.
