MATCH
REPORT
The U15's
were unable to raise their game sufficiently to avoid comprehensively
losing by 10 wickets against so far undefeated league leaders Cheddar
who played the game with only 10 men.
Asked to bat first
and despite their shortage in the field we only managed to make
progress at around 4 runs an over throughout the game. We never
really attacked their bowling, which at times was unexpectedly wayward
(25 extras), apart from spinner Thompson's spell of 2-9 off of 5
overs, which caused our middle order to struggle for runs. Although
a third wicket partnership with James Roscow (9) began to look promising
only Haydon Lyons (22), opening our innings, stayed around long
enough to reach double figures. Nick Barlett (5) and Jacob Hartrey
(3) together with James had all departed without getting going as
H Thompson (2-9) and M.Amos (2-12) picked up their wickets. Haydon
was out in the 16th over with the score on 57-5 but a further 20
runs were added by James Ratcliffe (5 no) and J.McKeag (4 no) in
the remaining 4 overs, for the loss of one more wicket (Alex Ray
3), as we finished on a reasonably respectable 77-6.
With 2 Somerset
players in their team and coming in as openers the only question
really was how long it would take them to overhaul our total, unless
we could get them out quickly!. Having started with a maiden from
Haydon was a bonus ! but we were then blasted for 12 off the next
over and from that point on they never looked in any trouble and
took control of the game scoring more or less at will off of any
of the five bowlers we used, Sam Honeywill’s accurate over
for 3 runs was the only one that escaped punishment. At nearly 7
runs an over the game was won by the penultimate ball of the 11th
over as they cruised to 79-0. The prolific J. Buttler finished on
(44no) and H.Thompson (26no).
