MATCH
REPORT
The U15's
entertained fellow strugglers Claverham, the only team against which
we had recorded a victory this season (in the KO cup, Semi-Final).
So both teams were eager for a first league win and on a damp pitch
and overcast skies the spoils eventually went our way by 21 runs
after two individually decisive performances from Archie Stead and
Russ Moore.
Batting first
our run progress was slowed by pitch/outfield conditions as we struggled
to 22-3 by the 7th over, Adam Burroughs(9), William Day (2) and
James Roscow (6) unable to make much headway. This however brought
Archie to the crease who transformed the game. In his stay of 9
overs, in partnership with San Honeywill (4) and Alex Milward (1),
until he was out in the 16th over , 57 runs were added of which
Archie's powerful hitting contribution was 52 (including 2 massive
sixes) propelling the score to 78 -5. Although Josh Chastney(0)
quickly lost his wicket Russ Moore (12no) ensured that there was
no tailend collapse in the remaining 4 overs and a further 21 runs
were added (our victory margin) with James McKeag (3no) as we finished
1 short of our first 3 figure league total this season on 99-7.
With accurate
bowling we soon had Claverham in trouble at 16-3 by the 5th over,
which by the end of the 9th over had deteriorated to 29-6. The chief
destroyer being Russ with a devastating opening bowling spell in
which he took 4 wickets, just missing a hat-trick, and finished
the match with figures 5-16 off of 4.5 overs. Claverham did not
give up without a fight though and clawed their way back to 59-6
by the 17th over as A Bird (33) and J.Norman (14) took advantage
of a 3 over spell when we introduced our spinners, unsuccessfully!
It was left to the return of Haydon Lyons (3-21) and that guy Russ
again to wrap up the Claverham tailend on the last but one ball
of their innings as they were bowled out for 78.
At last this has
finally lifted us off of bottom spot and hopefully we can climb
a few more places in the remaining games!
