MATCH
REPORT
Not to be outdone by our U11's League victory at Claverham the previous
day, the U15's visit there again on Monday in the Cup confounded
current form as they proved to be good enough to record a hard fought
win by 3 wickets with 2 overs to spare.
Claverham were not allowed to settle into any rhythm and a steady
flow of wickets and keen fielding ensured that they were bowled
out in 17.1 overs for only a modest total of 70, which nevertheless
presented a challenge given our recent batting performances. Haydon
Lyons did the damage on the bowling front, taking 4-20 in 4 overs,
assisted by James Ratcliffe's 2-15, Adam Burroughs 2-14 with a 1-6
contribution from Nick Bartlett. Claverham’s D.Protheroe (10)
and M.Croker (16) were their main scorers.
After an
early unfortunate run-out of Nick Bartlett (backing up and caught
out of his crease by a bowlers deflection of a powerful drive from
Ali Palmer (11) the other end) did not un-settle the top order.
James Roscow (11) and Jacob Hartrey (10) both made double figure
scores, to add to Ali’s contribution as steady progress was
made towards the required total. It was, however, man of the match,
Haydon (31) who was the lynch pin of the innings with a disciplined
display which saw us home to victory, although unfortunately, with
just one run needed, he fell victim to an inspired bowling spell
from R.Wilson. The latters 4-13 off only 2.5 overs had threatened
to upset proceedings at the end but Adam Burroughs (1 no)managed
to see off a hat-trick ball and then duly scamper a single from
the next to give us a 3 wicket win.
This victory
means a Semi-Final encounter away to Cleeve, anything could happen!
