MATCH
REPORT
Still bolstered by the return of our 'boarders' we increased our
undefeated match sequence to 4 games with a 38 run win over Wrington,
in pleasantly fine and dry weather which was a bonus the given unsettled
nature of it through the week.
Batting first
we could not have got off to a worse start as Russ Moore (0), opening
for the first time, was bowled second ball. Although we did not
lose another wicket, Tom Bond (3), until the 8th over neither had
we scored many runs, standing at just 15-2, less then 2 an over.
Despite the arrival of Ben Lyons at the crease the Wrington bowler’s
accuracy enabled them to maintain their stranglehold on the run
rate. Come the 12th over when Adam Burroughs (9) was dismissed it
was still only 2.5 an over at 30-3. Ben was joined by Ali Palmer
(7) and in striving to up the run rate they had to take risks, resulting
in Ben being run out 3 overs later for a disciplined anchor innings
of 17, but still only 42 on the board. Ali departed soon after trying
to force the pace but the remaining 5 overs did manage to produce
another 29 runs. This thanks to a belligerent 9 from James Roscow,
also run out going for runs and a final flurry of 10 in the last
over from Tom Williams (11no) as we closed on 71-6.
Not a sizeable
total but something to bowl at. Enter Simon Hill with a two-spell
match winning performance. 2 wickets in his first over had Wrington
on the back foot at 2-2. Haydon Lyons also took a wicket in his
first over from the other end 3-3. Wrington never recovered from
this and although, during bowling changes, Marston (10) tried to
take the attack to us, when he was run out in the 6th over with
score on 16-4 the game was virtually over. Wrington lost their remaining
6 wickets for 17 runs as the return of Simon and Haydon ripped through
their batsmen, Simon finishing with remarkable figures of 5 overs;
1 maiden; 7 runs; 5 wickets and Haydon 4 overs; 1 maiden; 7 runs;
2 wickets. James McKeag had earlier chipped in with (1-2) and Adam
Burroughs (1-2) finished off their innings with the 4th ball of
the 16th over.
There is still
an outstanding game against Weston. As they called off the original
fixture due to lack of players we are awaiting a response from them
as to whether they can now fulfill the fixture?
