At the start of this season I very much fancied our
chances of winning the U11’s league but this was somewhat
scuppered by the now familiar start pattern to our season,
when due to lack of players the very first game against
Failand & Portbury, last years champions, had to be
called off because we only had 4 or 5 players available
and could not be raise a team! Then in the next 2 games
we could only muster scratch sides, including several KWIK
cricketers, so losing both quite heavily, in the event one
of them to Clevedon who finished up undefeated League Champions
after being the 2003 runners up.
However, these were to be our only defeats, winning 9 consecutive
games, until the very last game of the season when we lost
the runners up spot clash to W-S-M Wizards. However, if
F & P don’t get round to playing and winning their
outstanding game then we will remain in our very commendable
third spot as the table below shows. Match summaries are
at the end of this report.
This has been a great performance given that in no game
was our strongest team available to be fielded so credit
for this not only goes Chris Strong & Steve Blanchard
(in his first season as Assistant Manager) but also to Captain
Archie Wall, who showed a great maturity for his age, and
used his players to the great advantage getting the best
out of them on the pitch.
I must mention too the roles played by Rob Cox, and Simon
Chamberlain when on some occasions they took over the reins
for the League team when either Chris or Steve could not
make the games, but more so for managing our less experienced
players in a series of mid/end of season friendly games
which were arranged to make up for their lack of league
games involvement.
My special thanks to Alan Barwick on the KWIK cricket front,
without whom I don’t know what we would have done
this season, after having been so badly let down by our
coach! Alan has been responsible for organizing their coaching
and proficiency tests and next season has agreed to take
the ECB Level 1 coaching course and, if passed, become our
official Club Coach, at all levels.
Finally my appreciation to all the parents who helped with
the refreshment duties, transportation etc, without whose
support we would find it hard to cope. Finally we must mention
our Youth Sponsors recorded above whose contributions are
a big help in funding all our teams activities and last
but not least thanks to our groundsman Fid without whom
we could not play the games.
