John
Huggins had moved up a level to join Shane in taking charge
of this team which, although being a smaller squad and needing
to include U11’s players from time to time, it was
hoped would consolidate and improve on their previous seasons
experience in this age group.
Apart
from a victory in the first round of the cup against Barrow
Gurney we had to wait until the 10 June for our first League
win, then promptly lost 3 more games (one by default) before
recording 4 consecutive victories from the 22 July onwards.
Several of these games were lost/won in very close single
figure margins, which could have gone either way. We again
we had a strong run in the second half of the season beating
all the clubs below us. Our heaviest losses were to the
top three teams so we still have plenty of ground to make
up if we are to challenge these clubs for honours.
We
have played all our games, bar 2 affected by availability
issues, and which it has not been possible to re-arrange,
so by default we lose one and win one. As the table below
shows we have again finish in (joint) 6th position. Match
summaries are at the end of this report.
Although
we, therefore, fared as well as in 2003 in terms of league
position we actually won fewer games but this was nevertheless
a good achievement given the standard of opposition we were
up against. My thanks to John Huggins and Shane Lovatt,
assisted from time to time by Ian Yard , not only for all
the effort and hard work they has put into organising this
team but also for coping with the additional burden of having
to try and provide their coaching too due to being let down
by our coach.
Behind
the scenes Anne Williams did another great job in handling
the time consuming job of providing Matt with all the scorebook
information for posting on the website. Thanks too to all
the parents who helped with the refreshment duties, transportation
etc, without whose support we would find it hard to cope.
Finally we must mention our Youth Sponsors recorded above
whose contributions are a big help in funding all our teams
activities and last but not least thanks to our groundsman
Fid without whom we could not play the games!
