SUNDAY, 10 JULY vs CLAVERHAM at BLAGDON
Blagdon 255-4, Claverham 230-6 - Won by
25 runs
The final game of the season came upon us all too quickly; we were
only at the start of July. Anyway, the team were all keyed up since
we had won all our games from the beginning of June. Claverham also
wanted to finish on a high and were clearly determined to be competitive.
We elected to field first and Alex and MArtin opened the bowling
with a wicket each as they were rteeling on 193-2 after 3 overs.
Even after 8 overs they had only managed 213-4 and we were delighted.
Tom Blanchard then bowled the best delivery of many a season to
open his spell but then must have been trying too hard as the next
5 balls were called wide. Maybe bowling down the hill doesn't suit
our best bowler. He then changed ends and this seemed to help a
lot as only 5 runs were conceded in the next 3 overs. All our bowlers
were very tight and picked up useful wickets just as Claverham were
getting threatening. They finished on a respectable 230 for 6 and
it was still 'game on'.
Back to our usual opening line up and Wesley was opening with Alex.
Although they only finished their pairing on 204 it was excellent
cricket as Claverham bowled superbly. Martin and Will continued
their good partnership and added 8 while Jordan teamed up with Charlie
Cook. They were good for another 16 runs and Jordan again top-scored
with 12no. By this time we had matched Claverham's score and we
relaxed as we continued to pile on the runs. Tom and Jack finished
the innings in fine style as we reached a winning 255-4. The game
was a lot closer than the scores suggest and whilst we deserved
it on the day it could have been all so different.
A very enjoyable match with both teams giving everything. We are
trying to arrange a "rematch" because it was played in
a great spirit.
