SUNDAY, 12 JUNE vs WRINGTON at WRINGTON
Blagdon 254-7, Wrington 233-10 - Won by
21 runs
We played at Wrington with a side missing 3 players who were building
and racing rafts with the scouts, and two others playing hockey
for the county. On a glorious morning we fielded first and got 4
wickets in the first 8 overs to restrict Wrington to 211 for 4.
Then our bowlers decided to make a game of it and Wrington took
full advantage by moving the score on to 243 for the next pair.
After this scare we pegged them back with 6 good wickets and they
finished on 233 for 10. Will Powell was the star with 4 for 11 off
2 overs. Everyone else was trying too hard as we gave away a record
46 in wides. Some were so bad they almost hit square leg. The champagne
moments came when Tom Blanchard bowled to Jack Friars (the best
of each team). Tom took his middle stump with a stunning delivery
while Jack timed a beautiful
4 to long on 2 balls later.
Our turn to bat and Martyn Mail was in no mood to mess about. He
scored an exquisite 15 not out and looked really good. We added
5 more runs with next pair to almost level the score when Natalie
Blanchard and Peter Strong tried to hit out but were both caught
out instead, both off the bowling of Dan Jones. They recovered their
composure to add a net 10 runs and we were ahead by the half way
stage. Jack Newman batted very well for his and scored 11 but got
out trying a mistimed drive. The running between the wickets was
excellent all day and shows that the coaching os working. Tom and
George came in for the last pair and we all expected fireworks,
but their bowlers were fired up and runs were hard to get. George
was run out and both were bowled by Matthew Newell. This only wound
Tom up as he smashed the final ball for 6 as we won the game in
fine style finishing on 254 for 7.
