SUNDAY, 19 JUNE vs WESTON-SUPER-MARE WONDERS at BLAGDON
Blagdon 305-3, Weston-Super-Mare Wonders 216-9 - Won by 89 runs

On a glorious sunny day, while Englnad were thrashing Australia, we played Weston's second team. Wesley stepped up as captain following Tom's debut for Somerset and lost the toss. Weston elected to field and the game started promptly at 10am. Wesley and Mark were the reluctant openers but Mark soon found he was enjoying it and hit some glorious shots and ran well between the wickets to finish on 8no. Next pair were Jack Newman and Charlie Cook (making his debut) and they showed what running could be like. They added a superb 23 to take the score on to 235 after 8 overs. Jordan and Adam have established themselves as a worthy middle order pair and added another 14 runs despite Jordan being out twice trying the time-honoured "haymaker" shots (well, it is that time of year). George and Peter batted well together
but runs were difficult against some very untidy bowling. Last in, another pair working well together were Martyn Mail and Will Powell. They also have a good understanding and Martyn cracked two lovely fours to long boundaries and ended on 15 no. At the end our total was the highest of the season at 305 -3 and well deserved.

Wesley was keen to do everything as captain, wicket-keeper and opening bowler so it was no surprise when he also took the first wicket. After a reasonable start Weston lost five quick wickets and never recovered. Jack and Charlie did well with both getting 2-1-1-0. However, overall we gave away 34 extras which almost equalled last week's record. I think some extra nets are called for!! Most of our team got a wicket and we kept Weston at bay on 216-9, a fine win and a good start as captain for Wesley.
