MATCH REPORT

Our first visit to Barrow Gurney at this level resulted in our highest league total to date although it has to be said was assisted by the fact that the home team were one man short.

Batting first Chris Clough-Hall (0) failed to open his account as we went one down in the first over. Jacob Hartrey (44) joined James Roscow (27) and they proceeded to compile the highest partnership (67) for any wicket this season, both enjoying the chance to find the boundary frequently, Jacob peppering it with seven 4‘s and in James’s case the field beyond the ground as he hit 2 enormous sixes. This run spree was cut short when James was bowled with the score on 69-2 in the 10th over. Not to be outdone Haydon Lyons (53no) carried on where James had left off and even after Jacob was run out just short of his fifty in the 14th over (102-3) he bettered Jacob’s efforts by hitting nine boundaries and a six to finish undefeated on 53, and in the remaining 6 overs was principally responsible for the majority of the 61 runs compiled at 10 an over, with partners Chris Goldsbrough (1) and finally James McKeag (8no) as we finished on an impressive 161-4.

With such a total to bowl at it was possible to share our overs between 8 bowlers. Barrow made a very spirited attempt to get the runs and it was not until the 12th over that we had the first breakthrough when our fifth bowler James McKeag (1-11) bowled E.Holdaway (35) whose innings had included seven boundaries too. Although Barrow at this point had advanced to 65-1 the required run rate was now 12 an over and was a pretty tall order. There was a further partnership of 36 for the 2nd wicket, until Curtis (26) was out to George Powell (1-15), but it had taken 5 overs to accumulate and at 91-2 left an impossible task. In fact only another 13 runs were scored in the remaining 3 overs whilst Chris Goldsbrough (2-10) and Chris Clough-Hall (1-3) claimed 3 more wickets to leave Barrow on 104-5 and us comprehensive winners by 57 runs.
