Claverham were our visitors for this first Home league game of the 2005 season and although we secured victories against them in 2004 in both Cup & League games there was no room for any complacency in approaching this game.

Batting first the visitors were soon in trouble as Simon Hill (3-20) got off to a flyer with a wicket in his first over. By the 7th over he added a further two victims as Claverham reached 31-3. It was not, however, until the 12th over before we achieved the next breakthrough when Haydon Lyons (1-26) bowled the threatening D.Jenkins (21) with the score having moved on to 47-4. The arrival of R.Gall (27), however, picked up the visitors momentum as he found able partners, firstly in L.Cooper (9) to push the score to 67-5 in the next 3 overs until the latter was out to Jake Hartrey (1-11) and then with D.Hoskins (15no) who between them added a further 26 runs before Gall was run out on the last ball of the innings giving Claverham a more than respectable total of 93-6 which was only 4 less than our target last week which we failed to reached.

Better things were hoped for this time round and we got off to a reasonable start with a 21 opening partnership in the first 4 overs before S.Huggins (8), making his U15’s debut, was bowled in the 5th over. Chris Clough-Hall (21) unfortunately followed in the next over but at 34-2 we were still well ahead of the required run rate. A solid partnership of 38 runs between James Roscow (15) and Haydon Lyons (26no) moved us on to 72 by the end of the 12th over before James was dismissed. Incoming Cameron Hastie (0) was unluckily run out in the 14th over to a direct hit trying to get the strike to Haydon and the scoring rate faltered with only 4 runs coming since the 12th. Alex Ray (3no) joined Haydon who decided to open his shoulders at this point and the required 19 runs were hit inside of 3 overs as we reached 95-4 to win by 6 wickets.
