As was to be expected Nailsea are always quick out of the starting blocks and maintained a run rate of 5 in the first 8 overs until when it took us to remove their first batsmen M.Cornish (17) and T.Richens (1) with a double strike in the same over from Chris Clough-Hall (2-25) who took a first ball and last ball wicket in the 8th.. 40-2. We had to wait until the 17th & 19th overs for our next successes though as a 64 run partnership between J.Tucker (58) and M.Tanner (22) put Nailsea firmly back in the driving seat and past the 100 mark until both were respectively dismissed by Simon Hill (2-21) returning for the last two overs in his second spell. Nailsea went into the last over on 110-4 and although we obtained another wicket with a run out a further 7 runs were also added to give them a formidable total of 117-5 but less than we had to chase against Weston, so we could feel well pleased with our efforts.
In response we progressed steadily with Simon Hill (10) and James McKeag (17) almost matching the 5 an over scored by Nailsea in their opening partnership before James was out in the 7th over at 33-1. This signalled the start of our downfall as 2 wickets in the next over by N.Dowling (2-17) removed both Simon and the luckless Chris Clough-Hall (0) to reduce us to 35-3. Jacob Hartrey (13) and Lloyd Davies (8) staged a mini recovery with a partnership of 21 until the latter was run out in the 11th over chasing quick runs. This had put us more or less back on track at 56-4 but no sooner that than we again lost our momentum and proceeded to lose a further 3 wickets in the space of 3 overs for just 11 runs following the introduction of J.Seal (3-27) to Nailsea’s attack.. Firstly Jacob was bowled by C.Wolley (1-18) , then crucially Haydon Lyons (7) so often our match winner at this stage to a shot he was kicking himself over, followed by George Powell (2) resulting in a less than adequate scoreline of 69-7 at the end of the 15th over . Chris Goldsbrough (20) made a sterling effort, including two massive 6’s, to turn things around with partners Steve Huggins (6) and then Harry Hudd (8no) but unfortunately this did not prove enough and we were still 20 runs short of our target when he departed on the third ball of the last over caught in the deep going for another big 6. We did manage a further 7 runs in the remaining 3 balls but had blown it earlier on and so on a final score of 103-9 fell short by 14 runs.
