After a wet start to the day we finally got the match under way about
10.30. Losing the toss we were put into bat first and benefited from
a faster outfield.
A very good innings by Garth Tiley (46) set us on the road to a reasonable
score for our first match of the season. Two very well struck 6’s
and a succession of 4’s helped the score along nicely, with
some steady partnering and good running between the wickets by Adam
Burroughs and Sam Honeywill. With the second highest scorer, Ali Palmer
(9), helping the side onto a credible 80 for the loss of 7 wickets
the only blip of the day was Uphill’s M Simms 3-12 off 5 overs
with the last two giving him all 3 wickets in consecutive maiden overs.
Uphill were not allowed to settle in the first few overs with some
good tight bowling from all concerned. Good fielding and covering
behind the wickets kept their runs to a minimum, and all kept their
eyes on the ball which meant we had four good catching opportunities
and caught them all. With bowling figures of 3-11 in only 3 overs
Sam Honeywill had the best figures of the day, but with tight bowling
from Garth Tiley (2-10), Adam Crooks (1-5) and Nick Bennett (1-6)
all contributed to a good first performance of the season.
Well done to all concerned and with concentration in the practises,
the only way is up.
