Uphill came to us with an almost full strength squad, and it showed.
They won the toss and chose to bat first. With an excellent innings
from their opener (M Hudson – 58) and a slightly more mixed
bag of bowling enabled Uphill to a very respectable score of 113 -6
after their 20 overs. A very good catch from Garth Tiley at mid-on
and some good fielding restricted what could have been an even greater
score. Some reasonable bowling from N Bennett (2-10) and S Hill (2-27)
but again the second highest scorer for Uphill was the extras.
Blagdon’s innings started slowly with 2 wickets lost very early
on. Garth’s innings started well (19), but was cut short after
some good bowling from M Hudson (1-14). A good innings also from A
Crooks (19) and good support from J Bennett (11 n/o) meant we weren’t
totally disgraced. An interesting bowling display from M Stainer (3-20)
led some of our batsmen in to a false sense of security, lots of very
wide wides, and when he was on target with his spin it caught us out.
Blagdon are working well together as a team, and hopefully we can
look forward to some close and exciting matches.
We have a semi final cup match against WSM to look forward too, and
with a league match against them this Sunday hopefully we can pick
up a few pointers and work to their weak spots.
