The weather was always going to play an important role in this match.
We started late because of the rain the day before left the outfield
a little soggy. We had to play the match on an artificial wicket,
which gave WSM a distinct advantage. As it was the rain forced the
match to be stopped early, and was won by WSM due to a better run
rate.
They batted first and didn’t mess about, they were scoring runs
at a very fast rate. The damage was done by the Main brothers with
T Main (51) caught and bowled brilliantly by Adam Crooks (3-16) and
B Main (n/o 40). Their score would almost certainly been higher if
D James had been allowed to get his eye in, but he was superbly run
out by our stand in wicketkeeper (Rhys Davies). The only other wickets
to be taken were by Russ Moore (2-22).
With both Rhys and Garth opening our innings we felt we had a chance
of catching their total, but with some good tight bowling by R Bessex
(1-20) and B Main (0-13) and then the early loss of Garth (20) we
were always going to struggle to match their run rate. Rhys (24) held
it together for a few more over’s but the rain eventually meant
the wicket became to slippery to be safe. We came off and as the weather
deteriorated the match was abandoned with their superior run rate
giving them the victory.
