| Match Report: Predictably having won the toss Uphill Castle elected to bat on an excellently prepared batting track during a hot summers evening in the heart of the Mendips. Blagdon’s Tom Blanchard opened the bowling and with some excellent medium/fast seam bowling took 2 wickets in the first over claiming the scalps of openers Sam Brewer and G Kimmins. Under pressure Castle showed some good resilience through C.Williams (14) before he was bowled by Will Yard and then Alex Fudge captured the wickets of Robbie Maggs and S.Lowd. Uphill’s batsman Alex Winn batted really well with 8 fours to end up 51 n.o. and pushed the visitors on to 103 -5 in their 20 overs. Having been set just over 5 an over to win we lost opener Martyn Mail in the first over to G. Kimmins but soon accelerated the run rate through Tom Blanchard (14) and Will Yard (17). On the night though Blagdon’s star batsman was Clayton Davies who hit some classic strokes including 7 fours for his undefeated 46 securing our victory with 3 overs to spare. Blagdon now have 10 league points and are currently 2nd in the league of 14 teams!. Manager's comments:Blagdon’s fielding is improving with every game, getting behind the ball properly in the field and backing up the wickets well. The bowling dept: is really improving giving us 7 or 8 options each match. On the batting front we have now extended the top order batters to 3 and its great to see Clayton Davies amongst the runs again (ie 49 n.o. and 46n.o. in the last 2 innings) after a difficult start to the season with the bat. With half an eye to next season (when we will lose several year 8 boys to the U15s) it’s great to see 6 or 7 relative newcomers all currently year 7 settle in really well.
