Blagdon lost the toss in this first match of the season and were put in to bat. However, the early evening light worked in our favour and we produced some fine batting, despite a slow start that saw just 15 runs on the board after 5 overs.

Opener Tom Blanchard built a fine partnership of 89 with no 3 Will Yard and together they really accelerated our run rate. Will raced towards a quickfire total of 45, hitting 9 fours and 1 six on the way. Just as well since our next six batsmen could only muster four runs between them in the remaining allotted overs.

Tom Blanchard carried his bat to the end of the innings and was 58 not out after a magnificent innings that included 10 fours and 1 six. Well done to Tom for his first league 50.

Winford needed just over 6 runs an over to win but were pinned down from the start. Alex Fudge was in good form taking three wickets and five other Blagdon bowlers got their man. There was some top drawer fielding, too, with Adam Martin taking two first class catches and Tom Blanchards accuracy achieving two runouts. In the end Winford were all out in the 17th over wrapping up a good start to the season.

Managers Comment
Overall, a positive start to the season with some good all round bowling and tight fielding including excellent catches. However, our middle order batsmen need to work on building an innings. This is no longer Barrington rules and you have to work at staying at the crease, getting runs on the board and not giving away your wicket.
