Summary: Blagdon records tumbled when they visited Cleeve Comets for the second league game of the season. Captain Tom Blanchard won the toss and elected to bat. 22 pulsating overs later and Blagdon had set a new U13s club run record of 178. There was a page waiting in the club's record books, too, for opener Blanchard who powered his way to the highest ever individual score from a junior player. He played a most intelligent innings, applying himself well with the bat before accelerating to an extraordinary 140 not out off 78 balls. Stroke play from this Somerset County U13s player was superb throughout an innings which included 20 fours and two sixes. At the other end wickets did fall for Blagdon with Richard Shaw, Tom Carpenter, Alfie Cotton and Tom Cave (2) the successful Cleeve bowlers. Reeling from a 178 run onslaught Cleeve never really settled. Only Michael Want (21) showed any resistance as the Comets finished on 60 for 9. Best bowling figures for Blagdon came from Alex Fudge and Tom Hunt with two wickets apiece. This was an excellent 118 run victory for Blagdon but the evening belonged to Blanchard with an entertaining display of exceptionally mature batting.
