Report:
Having reached this, several times deferred, Plate Final on the back of their seasons best performance in the semi-final, back on 4th June, this match came some 7 weeks since the team last played a game! Despite the occasion that showed in a lack lustre and very wayward bowling performance, Uphill having been asked to bat first. Had it not been for a determined 44 from William Plummer (no other Uphill batsman reached double figures) the 31 extras conceded (including 25 wides) would have been their top score and enabled the visitors to post a flattering total of 101-9, effectively off of 25 overs! Tom Coles (1-14) and Archie Wall (3-13) were the only non offenders.
A resolute batting performance from Tom Blanchard (21) and Tom Coles (12) in the top order gave us some hope as Uphill too were guilty of straying (14 wides) from their bowling line. However in chasing the runs they were both stumped in quick succession and apart from Steve Huggins (9 n.o.) all resistance then evaporated as Sam Brewer (4-12) and Alex Winn (3-26) ran through our middle and tail end batsmen by the 18th over as we finished all out for 70 runs. So a 31 run defeat which was ironically the margin of extras conceded!
